Do you love the water? I do! I love everything about it. I love the way the waves seem to sooth my soul and wash my troubles away with each wave. I love the smell of the Ocean and the quiet lapping of waves on the beach. I love the way the sun seems to melt into the water at sunset and I love watching the sunrise, while sitting on a dock at a cottage enjoying the first cup of coffee. I love the Asian influence. A lot of my pieces have a little, largely due to my travels in particular my trip to Thailand a few years ago. The experience stayed with me and influences my work. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel throughout the world. One of my favourite places to visit was Thailand. My visit to that country affected me deeply -- the beauty of the countryside and the kindness and happiness of the people have stayed with me ever since. As a result, you may notice, that many of my pieces reflect a somewhat Asian influence. This piece was created during a time when I was feeling particularly optimistic about the future. I call this piece Arizona Sunset as it reflects the way I felt in the presence of the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen. I was with a friend visiting the Grand Canyon in Arizona and while driving through the desert, the sun began to set... the colours seemed to come from everywhere all at the same time. The sky was a kaleidoscope of colour, filled with beauty! I could only hope to capture the feeling of that moment.

I was very pleased to find hidden faces and people in this piece, in particular one gentleman on the full left side of the piece seemingly standing behind a fallen tree trunk. The whole feel has motion and movement like that of a living jungle. It is one of those special pieces that took on a life of its own during the creative process. This piece was created during a time of great change in my life. Much was ending and I was filled with turmoil and fear for the future. This piece was a surprise to me. After completing the piece, which appeared to reflect the chaos that was going on in my life, I noticed something unexpected -- something that appeared to be a Monarch Butterfly just opening its wings. This piece was another one of those unique surprises that happens in art. I started out thinking about the joy and bliss that one feels when you are in love. Once the piece started taking shape though, I realized that it had a different feel – still thrilling and exciting but different. To me it had the feel of the wild Ocean surf with waves crashing against the shore. In it’s watery depths, you can feel the life it holds and protects … it literally breaths life with every wave.
